The Federation of Islamic World Universities (FUIW), under the aegis of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), has launched the Open Education Development Project in Universities members of the Federation, which aims to strengthen the capacity of professors to use open educational resources and tools and integrate them into university programs, and introduce them to the best new practices in the dissemination of these educational tools, according to the official website of the Federation. ‘ICESCO.
Dr. Salim M. AlMalik, Director General (DG) of ICESCO, Secretary General of FUIW, inaugurated the launching ceremony of the project, by videoconference, where he delivered a speech highlighting the need to raise awareness in education open and to provide training in this field by taking advantage of the current technological revolution, which offers enormous opportunities in the fields of education and learning.
In addition, the DG pointed out that ICESCO is committed to promoting open education by capitalizing on modern technology at the service of students and teachers, in order to achieve quality education and strengthen the economy of knowledge in the Member States.
Mr. AlMalik also said that the project includes a series of training courses for professors and researchers in universities and higher education institutions in the Member States, which are based on three key elements, namely building the capacities of teachers, the promotion of best practices in universities and the promotion of cooperation with international institutions to benefit from their experiences and resources in this regard.
In his speech, Dr. Omar Halli, Advisor to the DG of ICESCO for FUIW, indicated that about 400 teacher-researchers from 25 countries will benefit from this project through virtual trainings to develop their capacities to design open educational resources and use them in their daily lives. activities with their students and colleagues.
Dr Halli added that the project will also provide an open accreditation scheme to encourage teachers to create their own platforms and develop their skills in distance education, noting that ICESCO and FUIW will grant accreditation to at least a national institution and a university in each Member State. where the training program is to be implemented.
Likewise, he said that the project will be implemented over two years, under the supervision of experts specialized in open education in a number of FUIW member universities and European universities.
Also taking part in the ceremony were Dr Daniel Burgos, Vice-Rector of the International University of Research and Technology of La Rioja in the Kingdom of Spain, and Dr Khalid Berrada, Professor at Mohammed V University in Rabat, all two training supervisors. . The two officials praised the program and underlined its importance and great potential to keep up with the evolution of the educational process in universities around the world.
